great disasters as well as periods of evil. Both are difficult to reconcile and
both must be equally confronted with great courage. |

"natural" disasters have always been the most destructive and most
frightening for human society. For all the claims of human influence on the
environment, the Earth itself periodically unleashes such awesome power in the
form of volcanic eruptions,earthquakes and tsunami that dwarf the entire
arsenal of nuclear weapons.
