  NEGLIGENCE
From 13th Century Latin negligens = "(Belonging to) a particular system of faith that denies the primacy of the scriptures (of the Roman Cult) and official doctrines of the Church ". From ancient Latin nego="to deny", liber/li="book" and gens="clan, people, nation, tribe". By the 16th Century, the word was legally enhanced to include "carelessness, without due attention" and by the 18th Century to mean "The tort whereby a duty of reasonable care was breached, causing damage: any conduct short of intentional or reckless action that falls below the legal standard for preventing unreasonable injury".
