Level 1 Life- Polymers
| |
Unfortunately, the word polymer is most
often associated with "human made" molecules. In fact, it is the same term used
to describe complex molecules made from the basic structures (e.g. tri's
pentas,Hex's) we described in Chapter 8 (Molecules). |
| |
A Polymer is a grouping of two or more
monomer molecules (e.g. pairs, tri's penta's, hex's)
| |
The key complex polymers to all Level I,
Hydro-Carbon Biologics we will now outline are: |
| |
| Simple Polymers |

Sugars |

Fats |

Amino Acids |

Nucleic Acids |
| Complex Polymers |

Hormones |

Complex fats |

Vitamins |

Proteins |
| |
Hormones will also be discussed in more
detail in the next chapter (13- Higher organized life). |
