Level 1 Life- Simple Polymers- Sugar

In discussing the structure of simple sugars in Chapter 8 (Molecules), we saw that sugars are the simplest, most essential storage mechanism for both Hydrogen and Hydro-Carbon building material and immediate Hydrogen components "food". Depending upon the position of the HCOH levers, sugars can be water attractive, or water repellent.
Sugars can and do form long combinations known as "polysaccharides". These are especially important as building materials for cells.
Three vital examples of complex sugars (polysaccharides) are:

o Cellulose (body of plants)
o Starch (polys. of glucose in plants)
o Glycogen (polys. pf glucose in the human body).
