There are a number of significant symbols associated with the arms. The first and most common mistake is to assume the primary head symbol to be a griffin. While its head shares some similarities to ancient griffin like characters, the body of the creature, specifically its body, paws and tail are that of a lion- a winged lion. The symbol most closely represents the most ancient winged lion symbols of the Middle East over 2,800 years ago including the ancient prototype for the "lion of Judah". |
