  O'Collins (O'Cuilleain) Coat of Arms

Motto: "vincit pericula virtus" = Virtue Conquers Peril
There are a number of significant symbols associated with the arms. The first and most common mistake is to assume the primary head symbol to be a griffin. While its head shares some similarities to ancient griffin like characters, the body of the creature, specifically its body, paws and tail are that of a lion- a winged lion. The symbol most closely represents the most ancient winged lion symbols of the Middle East over 2,800 years ago including the ancient prototype for the "lion of Judah".
The second and most distinct symbolic motif is the chevron created across the shield and the lower bezant (coin).
